Greetings all, I've got a wee bit of a problem.

Just today I got the internet back at my house. I've had a copy of BioShock that I've been unable to play because it requires internet verification. I, of course, installed the game and updated it fully, to find out the game has no sound!

I've fixed that problem by running it in compatabilty mode (I like the OLD school games, so compatability mode ain't new to me) but I'm still having problems with the sound.

Snap, Crackle, and Pop seems to have taken residence up on my copy of BioShock.

I've tried updating sound card drivers, messing with the audio options (more like, getting pangry cause there's next to no audio options), plugging in headphones into the front microphone jack (somebody said it'll work), and changing my sound settings (as best I can, because the menu for that is befuddling me).

So, anyone else have an idea of how to fix the Rice Krispies effect on BioShock?

BTW, I am running Windows 7 32bit (I think).

One suggestion I found...
Try Start, Run, type dxdiag and turn sound acceleration down to basic

If this is for Bioshock 2, it has been suggested that the latest patch fixes the issue.

Lol, if it was BioShock 2, I'd more likely have a shrapnel problem.

And I don't see any kind of sound option on the DXDiagnostic.

BTW, There isn't a run option for Windows 7 (At least I don't see one). It's got some wierd search bar instead.

Also, I've looked on the forums more and seen that most people without a Sound Blaster card have been having this problem. I'm stuck with a RealTek (which is lame as a legless, one-winged duck) so maybie that's the problem.

Everywhere I looked there were tons of complaints about both games (1 and 2) and sound.

Well, I've been mucking around in the settings and the problem's changed now.

Instead of crackling, the game sounds suspiciously like Hypnotoad. Which isn't really a problem because it's hilarious.

Unfortunately, I'm now afflicted with input lag (when you press a key and it takes a half-second to respond). This is not so hilarious.

I'm gonna try temporarily turning off my modem and anti-virus programs to see if that's what's causing this.

Is the lag immediate or does it start after playing a while?  If it takes some time to kick in, the program may have a memory leak and may need to be restarted periodically.

The lag is as soon as I load my game.

And AVGfree keeps restarting immediately after I close it with Task Manager, so I'm not sure if it is the antiviral or what.

AVG should have a way to shut down protection through its interface.  That will keep it from re-starting.  Just remember to turn it back on before you surf.
